WRIGHT-PHILLIPS REFLECTS ON DRAMATIC TITLE WIN

Ex-Chelsea and Manchester City winger Shaun Wright-Phillips has reflected on the dramatic Premier League title won by the Citizens at the end of the 2011/12 season. Manchester City secured their maiden Premier League title that season after a 3-2 comeback win at home to Queens Park Rangers (QPR).

Manchester City led 1-0 and trailed 2-1 before they eventually won the game thanks to the last gasp strike from Sergio Aguero. That Aguero goal ensured that City finished ahead of city rivals Manchester United to end their title drought spanning almost five decades.

WHEN DID MANCHESTER POWER SHIFT HAPPEN?

Former Premier League player Shaun Wright-Phillips has revealed when the Manchester power shift happened. He made this known in a chat with The Sun. According to the former Chelsea and Manchester City winger, the power shift from Manchester United to Manchester City happened when the Red Devils were beaten in the 2011 FA Cup semi-finals. Manchester City legend Yaya Toure scored the only goal of the game to lead the Citizens to a slender 1-0 win over Manchester United. Shaun Wright-Phillips said that match was the beginning of the Manchester City dominance till this day. Manchester City have been the dominant force in Manchester at the expense of Manchester United for over a decade.

WRIGHT-PHILLIPS CRITICISES WEST HAM SIGNING

Ex-Chelsea and Manchester City winger Shaun Wright-Phillips has criticised new West Ham United player Jesse Lingard after his penalty antics during the win over bottom team Sheffield United on Monday night in the Premier League. Shaun Wright-Phillips was on Premier League TV in the company of Alan Shearer for the game between West Ham United and Sheffield United at the London Stadium and for the game between Chelsea and Newcastle United at Stamford Bridge.

Jesse Lingard created a little scene when he won a penalty towards the end of the first half. The Manchester United loanee wanted to take the penalty he had won before he was stopped by the captain for the day, Declan Rice who also doubles as the designated penalty taker. Long serving player Mark Noble is the West Ham United but he’s not a regular in the starting XI. In his place, vice-captain Declan Rice is always the captain during games in the Premier League. In the end, Jesse Lingard left the penalty for Declan Rice, who scored to give his team a 1-0 lead at the break. (more…)

WHY WRIGHT-PHILLIPS CRITICISED CHELSEA PLAYER

It’s safe to say that Ex-Premier League winger Shaun Wright-Phillips is not a big fan of Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma after his display during the defeat to Manchester City in the league earlier this month. French international Kurt Zouma has not regained his place in the Chelsea team after that Manchester City game to suggest that Shaun Wright-Phillips was right to call him out on his performance during the Premier League clash with the Citizens at Stamford Bridge. Since that Manchester City game, Chelsea have played two Premier League matches and Kurt Zouma has started both on the bench. Blues boss Frank Lampard has preferred German national team player Antonio Rudiger in his starting XI ahead of Kurt Zouma.


Shaun Wright-Phillips played for both Chelsea and Manchester City during his football career. The ex-Three Lions of England player won the Premier League and FA Cup titles during his time at Chelsea. Shaun Wright-Phillips talked about the league game between Chelsea and Manchester City while he was on Premier League TV as he accused Kurt Zouma and his Chelsea teammates of getting bullied by the Manchester City players in the first half. He cited an example where the little figure of Manchester City midfielder Phil Foden brushed off Kurt Zouma off the ball easily in the first half which saw Chelsea concede three goals without any reply. CHELSEA MOVE DRAINED ME EMOTIONALLY – WRIGHT-PHILIPS

 

Ex-England international winger Shaun Wright-Philips has revealed how his big money move to Chelsea left him with an emotional breakdown. He told FourFourTwo that he was reluctant to leave Manchester City at that time having thought that he would spend the rest of his career with the Citizens.


Shaun Wright-Philips later found out that Manchester City had no choice but to sell him to Chelsea. He left the club for Stamford Bridge shortly after the Blues ended their Premier League title drought under Jose Mourinho in 2005. Chelsea paid £21m to sign him from their fellow Premier League team.

He helped Manchester City to come back into the top-flight clubs in that season, his finest time came when he was able to lift the Premier League finally along with Chelsea in the season 2005-2006.

Sterling Speaks about Former Club Liverpool

Raheem Sterling in a recent interview to BBC stated that Liverpool has offered a new contract of £100,000. Even after the controversy during the 2015 transfer window, the new offer shows Reds are interested in taking him back. The Englishman is expected to be a key figure at the upcoming 2022 World Cup.

MAN CITY TO OFFER NEW CONTRACT TO STAR DUO

Manchester City have declared the desire to tie playmaker Kevin De Bruyne and winger Raheem Sterling to a new long term deal. The Citizens want to make a statement amid their UEFA ban.

They were banned from participating in any UEFA club competitions for two year. The ban was as a result of breach of financial regulation according to UEFA. The club have stated their innocence and they have submitted their appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport. The date for the hearing has not been announced. The club’s legal battle with UEFA will have an impact on the way they will do their transfer business in the summer.

WRIGHT-PHILLIPS CRITICIZES EVERTON’S NEW FORWARD

Last weekend, Manchester United resumed their campaign of torture by drawing with Everton at home after previously beating Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City nonetheless.

It also meant the Red Devils failed to take advantage of Chelsea’s slip up against Bournemouth. Tottenham now sits in fifth place and looks set to be the team capable of sustaining a challenge against the Blues for Arsene Wenger’s favorite spot.

SHAUN WRIGHT-PHILLIPS REVEALS MOST UNDERATTED TEAMMATE

Shaun Wright-Phillips is a player that has played with several star players during the course of his career which began with Manchester City. The 37 year was quizzed by reporters about the most underrated player that he played with.

It was a surprise that he mentioned Gareth Barry. Wright-Phillips alluded to the fact that Barry was a key-cog for the Manchester City side that he played with. He also revealed that Barry is still underappreciated as fans never appreciated the sort of work that he did on the pitch.
