Shaun Wright Phillips returns back

After being frozen out of the first team by Harry Redknapp, the former Chelsea and Manchester City winger, Shaun Wright Phillips, returned back to the pitch in the 2-0 win over Sunderland.

Redknapp was the manager who brought Wright Phillips to Loftus Road, but it is understood that they fell out with each other.

Wright Phillips did not feature in any of the matches until now. After a very poor first half to the season, Redknapp resigned from his role citing medical issues. After going 11 matches without an away point, QPR finally secured the first three points on the road with a win over Sunderland.

Wright Phillips made his contribution by playing for 38 minutes after coming on as a substitute. A Premier League winner with Chelsea, the 33-year-old has stated that it feels very good to be back on the pitch. Only a few weeks ago, he was linked with a loan move to Brighton and Hove Albion. Now, the former England international will be hoping to establish himself as part of Chris Ramsey’s plans. Ramsey has been appointed as the caretaker manager until the end of the season. The win lifted QPR out of the bottom three but only on goal difference.

“It was definitely worth the wait.It was a massive team performance, and it was for the fans, especially those that have been to every away game and seen us lose week after week.I thought the boys were outstanding. Each and every one of us put our bodies on the line and delivered the gameplan. It was amazing to get some game time. I was a bit anxious in the first five minutes, but once I got into the game I felt good out there,” said Wright Phillips. The former England star featured in only 12 matches over the last two seasons.

Huge Changes in Football Association inevitable

There have been a lot of forceful changes being made in the hierarchy of Football Association of late. All the people, who had played a key part in the hiring of Roy Hodgson and then, keeping him in the job even after the World Cup debacle, are exiting and the new set of people is taking over and that has put a big question mark over the future of Hodgson as England boss.

There is little possibility that Hodgson would be shaken from his position before the Euro Cup, but, whether he would stay at helm till the next World Cup or not, that’s not certain now.
Hodgson had a lot of support from the old decision makers of FA. They always backed him and had they been there, the 67-year old would have hoped to hold his position till 2018, but, that’s not the case anymore.

It remains to be seen how much trust the news guys have on Hodgson. It is believed that the FA officials are going to make a decision soon if they want to offer the manager a fresh deal or they want to wait and see how well the Three Lions go in the Euro.

The latter is looking more probable to happen because giving Hodgson a 2-year extension right now would be too risky a decision.

England might have been going pretty well in the Euro qualifiers, but, they have a lot of work to do still.

Winning obviously always helps and raises the confidence of the team, but, it’s also important to keep in mind against which opposition the wins are coming against.

The FA top brass would surely be taking all the things into consideration. It would be very surprising for a lot of people if they extend Hodgson’s contract in the next few months.

Redknapp doesn’t want to discuss contract extension yet

The QPR boss Harry Redknapp has clearly told the club hierarchy that he doesn’t want to talk about contract extension at this point of time.
This is Redknapp’s last year as QPR manager.
There were reports that the decision makers at the Loftus Road Stadium wanted the manager to put pen on a fresh deal, but, after the recent disappointing performances of the Rangers that have left them at the last position in the league table ahead of international break, the idea has been put on hold.
Redknapp, however, has dismissed these reports as rumours and has instead claimed that he himself let the owner know that the extension is not at the top of his priorities right now.
According to Redknapp, he wants to wait till the end of the season and see where the team ends up. If the Rangers get demoted, he would, most probably, be leaving.
In a Newspaper interview the day before yesterday, Redknapp was quoted as saying, “I had a chat with Tony about a month back and I had told him I was not ready to do any talks about the deal.”
“We first need to get this ongoing campaign finished. My decision will be based on what our position is in the table at the end of the season. If we are not able to escape relegation, there would not be any possibility of me staying.”
“I have such a good rapport with the owner that it’s not necessary for me to have signed a new contract. Let’s see where we find ourselves in May.”
Just one win has come for the Rangers playing in the English top tier the ongoing season. That was against Sunderland in August. They have lost regularly afterwards except that one game against Stoke City which they drew.

Onuoha Hopes For Wright Phillips Form

Nedum Onuoha hopes that his teammate Shaun Wright Phillips gets back in form and makes a difference for Queens Park Rangers in the upcoming season.

Over the last couple of seasons, Phillips has been given only 18 starting opportunities at QPR and that’s because he has not been playing up to that level. Since last Christmas, he’s made just a couple of appearances.

Phillips is approaching 33 now and many people believe that it’s close to impossible for him to regain his lost spark at this stage of his career, but, Onuoha still has got the belief in the English winger.

Speaking to the press yesterday, Onuoha said, “The previous season, Shaun was provided very little playing time. That was a bit strange for me to be honest. I have seen him putting up grand performances for many clubs over the years. He was one of the players that I used to look up to when I was a teenager.
Hopefully, he gets to play more matches this summer and creates impact.”

“He is looking very good in training. It seems he has put in a lot of work on his game in the off season. If he plays, it would be fantastic for us. We need somebody as experienced as him in the line up regularly.”

A few days ago, Phillips’ father Ian Wright had said that the winger had lost self confidence after being made to sit on the bench continuously last season.

When asked about that, Onouha said, “Look, every player starts doubting himself a little bit when he loses form. But, the important thing is how he gets out of that phase. Shaun has got through it by working hard and he is ready to win matches for QPR again.”

Wright-Phillips Future Uncertain

Shaun Wright Phillips is almost certain to be looking for a new club in the summer and his father has also confirmed the same. The former Chelsea and Manchester city winger was almost unseen and unnoticed in the victory celebrations for QPR after they managed to return to the Premier league in the first instance. QPR managed to beat Derby 1-0 in the play-off final. Former West Ham striker Bobby Zamora scored the only goal of the game in a smash and grab victory for Harry Redknapp’s team. They are expected to undergo a few changes in the summer not just to prepare for the new season but also to reduce the wage bill of the club.

The future of Wright Phillips has been thrown into doubt after the winger was not very active during the celebrations. He made just 13 appearances for the club last season as they finished third in the Championship table. The 33-year-old has been a QPR player since 2011 but he was one of the name to suffer a lot of criticism after the club was relegated in their second season. He was a £ 3.5 million signing, but the most important aspect in the deal is his wages, which is believed to be in the region of £ 70,000 per week.

“It’s not been for the want of trying. When the fans are wanting something from a player of his calibre and it doesn’t quite work out – you can understand his frustration. Of course, he’d love to be playing more, but when his confidence is low he tries a bit too hard – and that’s his only crime. Sometimes it just doesn’t work out, and he’s tried his best. For a player of his Premier League experience not to figure says the writing’s on the wall, but he’s got a career he can be very proud of,” said his dad.

IN THE PLANS

With the arrival of Matt Phillips to the squad of QPR, Harry Redknapp has admitted that Shaun Wright-Phillips is on his long-term plans and it has become difficult for the coach to offload the former Chelsea player considering his high wages.

Redknapp said: “It’s difficult. It’s only Premier League clubs who could afford to take him on his wages. Other clubs aren’t going to put up that type of money. There isn’t big money in this league wages-wise. If any of them want to take a thousand-per-cent drop in wages or something, they can, but you don’t see too many doing that.”

Wright-Phillips is not the only player that Harry Redknapp is trying to lure away from the club as the Brazilian goalkeeper Julio Cesar is another performer of QPR that is seeing more time on the sidelines than on the actual pitch and his high wages is a main reason why Redknapp is attempting to offload the player to another club.

The English winger Shaun Wright-Phillips has seen his playing time on QPR getting cut down with each season that passes by. In his debut season with the Championship club he managed to play in 32 matches, his appearances were limited to 20 in the season of 2012-13.

It’s a similar story when talking about Julio Cesar, the former star of Inter Milan who was considered to be one of the best goalkeepers in the world when he used to play for the Italian side and has failed to make a single appearance for the Championship club QPR in this current season.

CITY TOP THE TABLE

Manchester City is enjoying a fairly successful time in this season as they are topping the Premier League alongside Chelsea and Arsenal as they are the top 3 teams that are making a charge at the title.

A position that they seemed to be struggling with however was in the spot between the posts as Joe Hart was underperforming since his disastrous performance when they faced off against Chelsea and a mistake from the English goalkeeper cost his team the match.

From there on out Pellegrini had his doubts on whether or not to keep Joe Hart as his main man in the back of the defence and constantly switching him out with Costel Pantilimon. The last 2 performances of Joe Hart has seen him making a dramatic change and is now quickly regaining the confidence of his coach back as well as the fans.

Joe Hart was even named as the best player on the pitch during Manchester City’s match against Crystal Palace as they won 1-0 but the English goalkeeper had his work cut out for him in order to keep the clean sheet.

According to the Chelsea coach Jose Mourinho, he is so surprised about Manchester City’s season that he insists in saying that the team of Manuel Pellegrini is favorites on winning the Premier League title this season and maybe even the Champions League.

“I keep saying there is a big difference between Manchester City and the other teams,” he told reporters. It’s not just about quality, other teams have quality, us too. But [it is about] maturity, the number of players, the group of strikers, physicality, experience’’.

‘’City are the favorites, for us, for Arsenal, for Liverpool, to be around the top is a good achievement. In our case it’s important people learn how to play these matches against the top sides.” Mourinho said when asked about the possible Premier League champions.

KRANJCAR BACKED

The manager of Queens Park Rangers, Harry Redknapp, has defended Niko Kranjcar and has said that the Yugoslavian midfielder will be back in form soon.

Kranjcar who is a contracted player of the Ukrainian club Dynamo Kyiv had joined QPR on loan earlier this summer. He has so far played 3 Championship games for Harry Redknapp’s side, but, he hasn’t managed to impress much.

When asked about Kranjcar’s form, Redknapp said, “Niko has made a couple of appearances for his national side recently and has done well. He is slowly getting back to that level.”

“He wasn’t in great shape coming here as he didn’t have a pre-season at Dynamo. But, the more games he plays, the better he will get.”

QPR is currently at no. 2 in the Championship points table with 27 points in 11 matches. They haven’t lost a game so far in the competition. They have won 8 games, while, in the remaining 3, they have shared points. Their first game after the international break will be against Millwall FC this Saturday.
According to Redknapp, the performances that his team has put up in the last couple of Championship games show that they are making improvements.

The QPR boss said, “In the games against Barnsley and Middlesbrough, we showed great composure. We remained on top throughout those two games and that was really pleasing to see.”
“Now, the upcoming few weeks will be tough for us. We are going to play quite a few away games and we will have to make sure that we secure points from those games.”

When asked about Tom Carroll who injured his ankle while playing for the England youth team recently, Redknapp said, “It’s a huge blow for us. He has returned to his parental club for treatment and it will take him a bit of time to return to action.”

SWP LINKED AWAY

Former Chelsea and Manchester City winger Shaun Wright Phillips has been linked with a move away from Queens Park Rangers, as the club looks to bring down its wage bill. He is one of the highest earners at the club, as his contract is reported to be worth around £ 50,000 per week.

This is a wage that the club simply cannot afford in the Championship due to the lower TV revenue. Even though the parachute payments, the club will struggle to break even at the end of the season. As a result, he has been linked with a move away from the club in the last few weeks.

The player, though, has categorically denied such rumours by stating that he will remain at QPR this season because he wants to fulfil his contract. Wright Phillips signed the contract on deadline day in 2011. The four-year contract still has two years to run. QPR could have certainly done without an injury he suffered at the end of last season. He is one of the quality players in the team, but he missed the last two months due to an injury. QPR will be beginning the new season in the Championship against Sheffield Wednesday, and Wright Phillips is hoping to be part of the first team for this match.

“When I got injured, everyone stuck by me so I am not about to go anywhere anytime soon. I signed a contract and I want to fulfil it. I played in pre-season but it [ankle] just gets a bit angry every now and again after training. I played with worse last year so I should be able to [play against Wednesday],” said the winger. Shaun Wright Phillips was once the £24 million signing from Manchester City. He has won Premier league titles during his career.

Hooper wanted Queens Park Rangers move

Harry Redknapp, the Queens Park Rangers manager has insisted strongly that former Celtic striker Gary Hooper wanted a summer move to the Loftus Road club from the Scottish giants but a lack of urgency on the club’s behalf saw Premier League side Norwich City swoop for the player and grab him from under their noses and completed a swift deal for the player.

The Rs had an offer for the England striker accepted by the club earlier in the week and Norwich had their own offer accepted soon after. Hooper spoke to both the clubs and the managers and in the end, opted to sign a four year contract with the Canaries admitting that the chance to play in the Premier League was too much of a lure compared to the Championship where Queens Park Rangers will be playing this term.

And speaking to a local media outlet, the former Tottenham Hotspur boss stated that there is no reason to hang about it. He added that he could easily write a book about the players he has signed and lost over the years, before going on to state that all in all, this a part of football. Redknapp also stated that deals have to be completed quickly with other clubs also hanging around and this one dragged on for about two and a half months.

Redknapp mentioned that it was miles long and it should have been done, but insisted that is how things happen and insisted that they must learn from the experience and admitted that Queens Park Rangers cannot afford to make that same mistake once again.

He admitted that the player really wanted to make the switch to Loftus Road and it doesn’t matter what anybody else says because that is how things were but in the end, it just fell apart.
