Shaun Wright Phillips has said that he is relieved to have scored a Premier League goal after a long time. Phillips scored a Premier League goal after a gap of almost three years.

That goal came in QPR’s previous Premier League match against Chelsea. With the help of that goal, QPR managed to defeat the Blues by 1-0 in that match. That was only the second victory for QPR in the ongoing Premier League. However, despite that win, QPR is still at the bottom of the points table with 13 points in 21 matches.

Talking to the reporters after the match, Phillips said, “I have been going through a tough phase in this season and there was a bit of pressure on me. But, now, I am relieved that I have managed to score a goal in the league eventually. It’s been a very long time, but, I knew that it had to come at some point of time. It came in a very important match and against a very tough opposition and we won the match as well. So, it’s like icing on the cake for me.”

“We have been going through tough times as a team in this season. We have lost a lot of matches and we needed this victory badly. We knew that we would have to play out our skins if we had to beat Chelsea and we did exactly that. We had a strategy and we played according to that.”

When asked about QPR’s below par performance in the ongoing season so far, Phillips said, “The results haven’t been going in our favour, but, this doesn’t mean that the commitment isn’t there. We have been trying hard, but, sometimes it happens that you lose quite a few matches in a row. Hopefully, we would put up much better performances in the second half of the season.”
