Shaun Wright-Phillips is certain that both Chelsea and Manchester City will fight for the first title this season. Shaun Wright-Phillips represented the two Premier League teams during his career but he’s tipping Chelsea to beat holders Manchester City to the title. He made this known in an interview with the Metro. According to him, Chelsea have shown that they can secure big wins without having to play well.

England international Shaun Wright-Phillips went on to state what has changed since Thomas Tuchel replaced club legend Frank Lampard as the Chelsea manager. He said that the Chelsea attack was menacing under Lampard but his team was conceding too many goals. Tuchel has been able to tighten up that defence though the attack is not as free-scoring like it was under Lampard.

Chelsea won the Champions League title last season under Tuchel by beating Manchester City in the final thanks to a Kai Havertz strike and they moved to strengthen their team in attack with the club-record transfer of RomeluLukaku from Inter Milan. In addition to sealing the return of Lukaku to the club from Italy, Chelsea signed Spanish midfielder Saul Niguez on loan from La Liga holders Atletico Madrid.

Chelsea have lived up to favourites status revealed by Shaun Wright-Phillips as they are the top team on the Premier League standings after seven rounds of matches in the English top flight this term. The Blues leapfrogged both Liverpool and Manchester City as a result of the win over Southampton on Saturday. The European champions scored twice in the final seven minutes to beat the Saints 3-1 at home. Chelsea are now on 16 points from seven matches and one point ahead of former leaders Liverpool who were not able to keep their spot at the summit due to the 2-2 draw at home to champions Manchester City.
