White became an Arsenal player this summer following a £50m transfer from fellow Premier League team Brighton and Hove Albion. He played in the Premier League for one season in the colours of the Seagulls before moving to Arsenal. For French World Cup winner Varane, he left Real Madrid to sign for Manchester United this summer in a deal that could rise to the £41m.

On the two defenders, retired England international Shaun Wright-Phillips said that White is a better signing in comparison to Varane. Shaun Wright-Phillips stated that the new Arsenal player is a better signing due to his old skool mentality and that he has Premier League experience unlike Varane who has never played in England before now.

White has already played for Arsenal this season but Manchester United fans are yet to see Varane in action.

Arsenal lost 2-0 to fellow London team Brentford on the opening day of the new Premier League campaign and White was in the team. The ex-Leeds United centre back was on from start to finish as goals in each half from Spanish player SergiCanos and Danish international Christian Norgaardgave newly promoted team Brentford a major scalp. White was not in the Arsenal squad for the London Derby encounter with Chelsea on Sunday.

RomeluLukaku scored the first goal of the game on his second debut for Chelsea before England international Reece James added a second goal to give the Blues a 2-0 away win in their London Derby encounter with an Arsenal side without White. He missed the game after testing positive for Covid-19.
